Who we are
Joyvera Care (“we”) provides in-home personal support worker (PSW) services in Toronto and the GTA. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and how we protect it.
We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where it applies, Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
Our Privacy Officer is responsible for this policy. You can reach them using the contact details at the end of this page.
What we collect
When you contact us
Your name, phone number, email, city, the type of care you’re asking about and anything you write in your message.
When we provide care
Information we need to plan and give safe care, such as:
- Health conditions, mobility, diet, allergies and a list of medications
- Daily routines, preferences, language and cultural needs
- Emergency contacts, the substitute decision-maker and the family doctor’s contact details
- How to get into the home safely
- Visit notes written by your PSW after each shift
- Billing details and receipts
When you apply for a job
Your resume, PSW certificate, First Aid and CPR certificates, references and, with your consent, your Police Vulnerable Sector Check result.
When you visit this website
We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Our web host keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser type and pages requested) to keep the site secure.
How we use it
- To answer your questions and arrange a free consultation
- To assess needs, write the care plan and deliver care
- To keep your family and health team informed, when you agree
- To schedule visits, bill and give receipts
- To recruit and screen staff
- To meet our legal, insurance and tax obligations
We never sell personal information, and we don’t use it for anything unrelated to these purposes without asking you first.
Your consent
We collect, use and share personal information only with your consent, unless the law allows or requires otherwise. For health information we ask for your clear permission, usually in writing when care begins.
If a client can’t make these decisions, we work with their substitute decision-maker (for example, an attorney under a Power of Attorney for Personal Care).
You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us. If you do, we’ll explain how it affects the care we can give.
Third-party services on this website
- Google Fonts supplies the website’s fonts. Your browser connects to Google to load them.
- Google Maps shows our office on a map. Google may set cookies when the map loads.
- Formspree delivers the consultation form to our email.
- Links to Google reviews, Instagram and Facebook take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.
These companies handle information under their own privacy policies, and some store it outside Canada.
Where your information is stored
We store information in Canada where we can. Some of our service providers store data in other countries, such as the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of those countries.
How we protect it
- Only staff who need information for their work can see it
- Accounts are password-protected and devices are locked
- Paper records are kept in a locked place and shredded when no longer needed
- Every staff member signs a confidentiality agreement and receives privacy training
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the reasons above, and to meet legal, insurance and tax requirements. For example, the Canada Revenue Agency requires business and financial records to be kept for six years. After that we securely delete or shred it.
If you contact us but don’t start care, we delete your enquiry within 12 months.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask how it has been used or shared, and ask us to correct anything that is wrong. Contact our Privacy Officer and we’ll respond within 30 days.
In rare cases the law lets us refuse (for example, if it would reveal someone else’s information). If so, we’ll explain why.
If something goes wrong
If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we’ll tell the people affected as soon as possible and report it to the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
Questions and complaints
Please contact our Privacy Officer first. We’ll look into it and reply in writing.
If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, for personal health information, the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
