Accessibility
How we make our services and website accessible, and how to ask for support.
Last updated:
Our commitment
Joyvera Care is committed to serving people with disabilities in a way that respects their dignity and independence, and gives them the same opportunity to benefit from our services as everyone else.
We aim to meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards (Ontario Regulation 191/11).
Communicating with us
We communicate in ways that take a person’s disability into account. You can reach us by phone, email or in person, and we’re happy to use plain language, speak slowly, write things down or include a family member or support person.
Accessible formats
Care plans, service agreements, invoices, this policy and other documents are available in accessible formats (such as large print or an accessible electronic file) on request, at no cost. We’ll work with you to provide them in a timely way.
Assistive devices
Clients and visitors are welcome to use their own assistive devices, such as walkers, wheelchairs, hearing aids or communication boards. Our PSWs are trained to support people who use them.
Service animals
People with disabilities may be accompanied by their service animal. If a PSW has a serious allergy to an animal in a client’s home, we’ll arrange a different PSW so care isn’t affected.
Support persons
A person with a disability may bring a support person to consultations and care planning meetings. We may ask for the client’s consent before discussing confidential information with the support person present.
Temporary service disruptions
If our phone line, email, office or website will be unavailable, we’ll post a notice here and on our voicemail explaining why, how long it’s expected to last, and other ways to reach us. If a planned visit is affected, we’ll contact the client or family directly.
Staff training
All staff receive training on providing accessible customer service and on the Ontario Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities, when they start and whenever our policies change.
Employment
We accommodate applicants and employees with disabilities. If you need an accommodation at any stage of hiring, tell us and we’ll work with you.
Website accessibility
We designed this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. It:
- Can be used with a keyboard alone
- Works with screen readers, with text descriptions for images
- Uses colour contrast that meets WCAG AA
- Can be zoomed to 200% without losing content
- Works on phones, tablets and computers
The embedded Google map is provided by Google, so we can’t fully control its accessibility. Our address is always also given as text with a link to Google Maps.
Feedback
We welcome feedback on how we provide accessible services and on this website. Contact us by phone, email, mail or in person, and tell us if you need a response in a particular format.
We’ll acknowledge your feedback within 2 business days and respond within 10 business days.
